Do you think the media shows fairness in their crime related stories?

I live in a town that has had a moderate amount of crime over the years but the town next door that has a "reputation" for crime is always in the news. Top story most of the time. A few weeks ago a man was found murdered in my neighbors drive way. Not once did the newspaper or TV mention it. Why? Why does the media pick on certain neighborhoods? or do they?
