Crime Stories

The author Raymond Chandler has 3 rules, his "absolutes', for writing successful crime novels: ?

never take advice, never show or discuss work in progress, and never answer a critic. Would these have been 3 good rules for the authors of Collins submarine computerization project software ?

  1. Don't know about Collins Sub software, but wasn't he also the guy who said, "When things get dull, people (characters) start dying?" Maybe Collins Sub should subscribe to this idea.
  2. I'd like to know where Chandler said this. The only dictum of his I remember is "When in doubt, have a man come through the door with a loaded gun." They are probably good guidelines for someone who is in command of himself as fully as Raymond Chandler was 1938-1948 and is as talented. Otherwise, I doubt they are such wonderful rules.
