Crime Stories

Female Mystery/Detective/Crime Novels Recommendations?

I am looking for good mystery/thriller novels with female detectives, cops, forensic experts, etc. I just bought books by Sue Grafton and Kathy Reichs too.

  1. Check out the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
  2. Nora Roberts writes a series called "In Death". The main character is Eve Dallas. She is a detective in NYC. It is set in the future (2058 I think). I like the books. The are nothing profound, but a fun read. About half the time I can solve the case.
  3. I liked the Kathryn McKay series by Christine McGuire. There were six or seven books in the series (all the titles start with the word "Until"), and they make for good, light summer reading.
  4. Patricia Cornwell's books are good, the main character is a female forensic pathologist and they are worth a read i just read Book of the Dead which is her newest book and i hadnt read any of her other ones so you can start wherever in the series
  5. 'Smilla's Sense of Snow' by Peter Hoeg (very unlike any movie) is a great story about a woman who stops at nothing to solve a mystery, because her sense of snow tells her 'case closed' is not so. 'The Bone Collector' by Jeffrey Deavers tells a fine story of a reluctant female beat cop who gets turned into a forensics expert on a crippled expert's insistence. (never saw the movie, but you know how it goes w/movies and books...)
  6. The "In Death" serries is very good. The author is Nora Roberts but the pen name is JD Robb. I also really like James Pattersons Women's Murder Club books (1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree...)
  7. You have to read the Stephenie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. These really are fantastic books. I worked at Borders over the holidays and a group of older women told me that I HAD to read them because they were absolutely hilarious. I was a little skeptical because they seemed too "chick-lit" for me, but I love them now! At the time I read them there were 13 books (14 now as of June 17th) and I finished them all within two weeks. The book is about a not-so-ambitious woman, Stephanie, who gets into the business of bond enforcemet. She has no clue what she's doing but lucks on her side. Each book usually centers around a couple of "skips" (the bad guys she needs to catch) and her relationship with crazy and funny family/friends and the two sexy guys that are fighting over her. I definitely recommend this book - I usually find myself laughing out loud. I tried getting into the Eve Dallas series by J.D. Robb - but Nora Robert's writing style has never interested me. I could read the first two books.
  8. You should try the In Death series by JD Robb--amazing!
