What are some good crime/ investigation novels?
I need one that shows logic... (please don't say Sherlock Holmes)

- If you really want logic, try "Angels and Demons" and "Da Vinci Code". They're really logical and thrilling, too. Happy reading! |<rypton
- John Grishim novels are some of the best crime novels I have read. One of my favorites is The Rainmaker.
- I'm currently reading a book called "The Poet" by Michael Connelley. It's really good, it's about this reporter whose brother commits suicide, which actually turns out to be something much more sinister and it's connected to a whole lot of other, freaky stuff. Enjoy! :)
- The Alienist and Angel of Darkness by Caleb Carr both show logic in the investigation of murders in NYC in the late 19th century. Devil in the White City by Erik Larson is a non-fiction book about the monumental construction of the Chicago World's Fair (which, in and of itself is interesting) paralleled with H.H. Holmes' construction of his torture house and subsequent murders. Also, if you never have read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, I highly recommend it. It's his rendition of the brutal murder and investigation of the Clutter family in Holcomb, KS. It also traces the murderers' trail in the days following the killings. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime by Mark Haddon is a very different example of a crime investigation, as the "investigator" is an autistic child. The Dan Brown novels that were previously mentioned, however, are also very good examples showing logic.
- 10 Little Indians or, And Then There Were None
- Try some of the books by Patricia Cornwell. She even has a book about Jack the Ripper - who she believes through her own investigation who the real Jack the Ripper was. Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper – Case Closed (2002)
- Definitely go with James Patterson
- Try John Dunning's Bookman series, starring Cliff Janeway(usually known as a Cliff Janeway novel) or Stuart Woods books(all of them) John Connelly's Lincoln Lawyer. And last but not least these two authors James Doss and Bob Morris.
- Like another post stated: James Patterson. He has two detective series out Alex Cross (begins with Along Came a Spider) and Women's Murder Club (1st to Die). Both are good. Or if you want an investigation novel where the main character is not a detective - but decides to investigate a murder because they knew the victim - try any book by Mary Higgins Clark. My personal favourite by her is 'No Place Like Home.'
- personally, I don't think you can beat Agatha Christie.
