What is crime like in New Orleans, and will it get better? I've heard that crime in New Orleans is absolutely terrible, and that's the main reason my family wouldn't want to move there if they had an opportunity to. Will the crime get better? Also, my family has said that they wouldn't want to move to New Orleans because of the aftermath and effects of Katrina. Is it still that bad?
What is the difference between the consequences of a hate crime and a regular crime? A hate crime is when a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her membership in a certain social group, usually defined by racial group, religion, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, gender identity, or political affiliation. A crime is the breaking of one or more rules or laws for which some governing authority, may ultimately prescribe a conviction. My question is, what exactly are the consequences for a hate crime and a crime? Should the consequences for a hate crime be strengthened?

Why is there a definitive difference between a hate crime and normal crime? Is crime within races,or against majority races/ethnicities performed out of love? And why should the criminal in a hate crime be punished anymore than a criminal in a non hate crime? Why should the punishment be based upon the victim instead of the crime? Regarding the first answer, I just can't imagine the government deciding the way crimes affect people. As a white woman, if I'm raped by a white man, it may ruin my marriage. I may fear men altogether after that, and could never be intimate with another man. Different people are different regarding the way they handle things, and I don't think it's fair that just because I'm white, I get passed over as saying, "oh, she'll be fine", compared to someone of a different ethnicity. All crime should be looked at as "hate crime". There should be severe punishment for it all. All crime is committed out of hate, wether it's racial or personal. From a humane point of view, it's not fair to the criminals for one to get worse treatment than another just because of who the victim was. And from a moral point of view, criminals need to know there are consequences to their actions, so they should all be punished to the fullest extent of the law dependent upon their actions.
How long is the integrity of a crime scene kept? If a crime is committed in someone's home, how long is that crime scene roped off before the residents are able to move back in? Say for instance that someone breaks into your home and murders one of the people that live there, how long will other residents be kept out of the home before being allowed to move back in? What's the window on collecting evidence? Is it indefinite depending on the crime?
When is a hypothetical conspiracy to commit a crime considered unlawful? I've often heard that a person can get arrested for conspiring to commit a crime before an actual crime is committed. This makes sense, but, when exactly does something become illegal? For example, if I went online and engaged in a hypothetical conversation with another about pulling off a bank heist, exchanging ideas or scenarios regarding the best way to accomplish such a task, is that by default a conspiracy to commit a crime? To what extent can something be merely a wicked fantasy played out via conversation and not cross the line into unlawfulness?
Where can I find good information on the crime statistics in Cincinnati? I need to find out where I can get the crime statistics for both major crimes and minor crimes over the past three years. How much crime do illegal immigrants actually commit in the US? This is a serious question! I really don't know and I'm looking for statistics. Personally I think that illegal aliens probably have a higher crime rate than the US average but not much higher when you account for income and geography. If I was an illegal than I would try to be as honest as I could because I don't want any contact with the police or legal system if I can help it. I think that is a reasonable attitude so I think that many illegals think the same too. What do you think?
What is the crime if somone driving intentionally runs someone over, then flees? What is the crime in Washington state if somone driving intentionally runs someone over, then flees? The catch is that the person who got run over did not suffer severe bodily damage, in which case could it be vehicular assault? Or just hit and run? I believe that they can only charge them with vehicular assault (which is pretty much attempted ) if the victim sustains serious bodily harm. In this case, she did not.

United States Day vs night Violent vs non-violent And other break downs I'd like to analyze crime throughout the country, possibly by cities or states about when and where crime occurs and what type of crimes are being committed at what times? Is it possible to manage Black areas to be less violent and crime infested? I am hopeful that we will be able to supervise Black communities to reduce crime. It does not matter why they are so prone to crime and resistant to responsibility, we must help them to become productive members of society if it is at all possible. I know we have been trying to transition them into society for many years now without much success, but we need to do more. It may be that we will just have to increase police presence and supervise them more closely to prevent crime. I do not think we can stop the tendency toward violence and crime, but we prevent the crime itself by strict control on these areas.
How big could a jail building be to stop crime in Britain? The British government is planning to build a super-large jail house in the UK to accommodate 100s of thousands of prisoners. The question is how does that prevent, stop or deter crime? Waste of time and tax payers money, I believe. Moreso, it turns the UK to the jail house of Europe, but will curb no crime as usual. There better ways to spend that kind of money, especially on programs that prevent crime rather than attempting a knee-jerk immediate cure.
What is the smallest crime you can get the death penalty for? How severe a crime do you have to commit to get on death row? I personally wouldn't consider this a dumb question but I sure am getting plenty of dumb answers. I understand that you have to murder, but is it just murder in the 1st degree? Or how about the 2nd degree? Do you have to murder multiple people? Or children, cops, etc?
What is the process crime labs take to analyze results of a homicide? Prosecutor's office has told me the crime lab results of my mother's homicide, could take up to two years to be returned. I understand there is only one lab that is responsible for all other cases and drug testing across the state, but there has to be a prioritization system, right? Plus, I live in Arkansas where homicides aren't as common as the more populated states. I'm just curious what task causes this process to take so long.
What are your opinions on UK Crime TV Documentaries? For my Media A Level, I've chosen to research crime & the media. I need to gain people's opinions. For my question, I have chosen; With the increase of real life UK crime documentaries, for example, Street Wars & Traffic Cops, are such programs glorifying crime to provide entertainment for public viewing, or are they making the public aware of ongoing crime in the UK? Any comments are welcome :) Thanks.

What is the biggest organized crime problem facing America today? Is it the Mafia? MS-13? The Latin Kings? Also, is it true that the Mafia has been considerably weakened over the last twenty years? How do crime rates in the UK differ between the races? Are there reliable figures comparing the crime rates between different racial groups? Particularly figures comparing the races and the rate at which they commit different categories of crime. Nadz - they shouldn't differ because of the population size. I am asking about crime *rates*. What if you commit a crime in a foreign embassy or consulate? First off, I am not contemplating committing any crime. I was just watching 24 Season 4 on DVD and an interesting plot twist got me thinking. What if a person were to violate the law (say, kidnapping) inside of a foreign embassy or consulate located in the United States? In the show, the main character was told he would be tried in China under Chinese law for a kidnapping committed inside the Chinese consulate. Would this be the case in real life?

And now im just wondering what courses you would have to take to become one, and how long does each course take and details about them. What is the difference between a crime and an act of war? So many people are calling for Obama to send in the Navy to rescue the captured American captain which pirates are holding hostage in a foreign country's (Somalia) territorial waters. The Navy is part of the military charged with protecting our National Defense. Is the capturing of this captain the crime of kidnapping, or an act of war against the United States? If it's a crime, should the military be involved in law enforcement, particularly if the crime is committed in a foreign country? If it's an act of war, should the military get involved *every* time an American citizen is kidnapped/taken hostage in a foreign country?
How long does a victim of a crime have to turn the criminal in to the police? My friend was caught comitting a crime six months ago by his ex-employer. He lives in the state of Illinois.
How can those blaming poverty for crime explain the high rates of crime among the affluent? From the protected hierarchies of big business and organised crime, to drug abusing millionaire popstars; from the aristocracy to the nouveau riche, it would seem that those urging sympathy for criminals on the grounds of economic deprivation are short sighted. What's more, we can be sure that, for every jack-the-lad caught red-handed, there are probably many more upper-crust baddies whose crimes never make the stats.
What should be the difference in the punishment of a crime and a hate crime? Isn't every crime, in some way, a hateful act towards the victim? Sure you have the standard definition, which is basically an attack on someone for their identity alone, but do you think that is worse than another reason? Do you think a person that kills/robs/violates a person for the heck of it should be punished less or the same as a person that did the same to a person because of their race/religion/sexual orientation/etc? Why?

If it's an act of war, should the military get involved *every* time an American citizen is kidnapped/taken hostage in a foreign country? hepcat: It would help if you paid attention. The Maersk Alabama is a Dutch ship. Part of the crew was American. Big difference. And what's the difference between this situation where an American is taken hostage, and the Daniel Pearl incident; an American in a foreign country, taken hostage. Bush didn't send the military to save him. Why would you expect Obama to do that now?
What crime would blowing up half a building be? I'm writing a story where an 8 year old girl uses a small amount of explosives to get back at her bully, by ruining his things. But some of the bully's things contained explosive substances. Since nearly half the (empty) school building was destoryed, and no one was hurt, what crime would that be. A.K.A on her criminal record or what the police would refer to it as.
