My theory is that the media over-hypes stories and convinces people that rapists, murders, drug dealers, and pedophiles are lurking behind every tree. For instance, how many times have you seen the story of a young pretty blonde who got raped and killed and the media give it nationwide coverage? Meanwhile the story of a young minority girl having the same thing happen gets only local coverage. People I know are convinced that society is going to hell in a hand basket because people just like them are being raped and murdered left and right. Does anybody recall a hideous true crime story from the 70s? A man was outside his house when he saw a girl who looked to be his daughter sitting between two men as they sat at a traffic light. The girl in question looked right at him, but the fact that she did not wave ,smile, or otherwise show any signs of recognition that she was looking directly at her father convinced him that he must have been mistaken. Later the two men would brutally murder the girl who had sat between them in the car, and, horror of horrors, the girl was indeed the daughter of the man above-mentioned. It was not Bundy. HereIam he need not have worried about getting the license because it was either his car or his daughter's. He just did not put it all together because the girl made not the slightest gesture of recognition-it could not possibly be my daughter he reasoned!!! Yeah, in general though, people should call the cops if they think somebody is in trouble. In this case he concluded that, daughter or not, the girl did not look to be in trouble!!! I saw it on a TV show god only knows which one it was so long ago. I think it was a "hot" state like Arizona or New Mexico.
